Under-tile heating and custom lighting for a natural materials renovation
How it came together.
This renovation leaned heavily into natural materials — timber, stone, and large-format tiles. Millar Electrics handled the underfloor heating and the lighting scheme.
Under-tile heating
Electric underfloor heating mats were installed beneath the bathroom floor tiling, the ensuite, and the laundry. Each zone was put on a dedicated circuit with a programmable floor-sensing thermostat, allowing each room to be independently controlled and scheduled. Pre-installation testing was conducted on the mats before tiling commenced, and post-tile testing confirmed zero damage during the install.
Kitchen and living lighting
The kitchen received a combination of recessed LED downlights over the prep areas and adjustable pendant fittings over the island, each on separate dimmable circuits. LED strip lighting was installed under the floating shelving and inside the glass-fronted cabinetry, for a low accent layer in the evenings.
Outdoor connections
External weatherproof GPOs were installed on the rear deck for outdoor entertaining, along with outdoor lighting on a separate circuit from the internal lighting. The external circuits were all protected by RCD at the switchboard.
